Villa 12

Villa 12

Villa 12 is characterized by its expressive lines, creating a modern and luxurious feel. This modern play of lines can be seen on all four sides of the house, creating a real statement in every direction. The two side facades are mostly closed, creating privacy from the neighbours, while the front and rear facades are opened up to ensure sightlines and natural daylight. The main building is also lifted from the ground to provide natural daylight to the basement. All these decisions are emphasized by expressive white stucco lines.

The 5-meter tall exterior void on the rear facade creates a dramatic view. By extending the roof and walls on the first floor, the white line embraces the main building. Thus the rear facade has a unique composition with impressive depth. This depth also has a practical functions, it reduces direct sunlight on the warmest parts of the day, preventing the building from heating up too much in summer.

Emphasising lines

The 5-meter tall exterior void on the rear facade creates a dramatic view. By extending the roof and walls on the first floor, the white line embraces the main building. Thus the rear facade has a unique composition with impressive depth. This depth also has two practical functions. Firstly it reduces direct sunlight on the warmest parts of the day, preventing the building from heating up too much in summer. Secondly, it creates shelter from the rain, allowing the aluminium sliding doors to be opened even when it rains. The large overhang is accentuated by the lower extended line, creating a covered terrace in front of the kitchen.

FRAMING THE SUN

Detail outside void
Design is in the details

”   A clean void is made in the extension of the right facade. Its dimensions match the window directly next to it, creating a balanced composition. By doing this, the first floor feels less confined and more open. It adds interesting sight lines and creates a literal framed view. This view is westward, meaning the setting sun shines directly through this void, filling the master bedroom with evening light.   “

Used materials

Enhance architectural
intention through materialization

The modern aesthetic of the design is enhanced by the main material, clean white stucco. Because the stucco is plain white and has no distracting texture, all attention is directed to the architectural lines. Its purpose is to highlight the unique structure.

The white stucco is contrasted by dark aluminium details, complimenting each other through balanced composition. These two smooth materials are offset by concrete and wood, both uniquely textured materials. The wood brings warmth and a natural quality to the building, while concrete creates a steady, raw base for the design, both structurally and aesthetically.

Interior details

The modern appearance of the exterior is reflected in the interior. Both by how the spaces are defined and by using the same materials, concrete, white stucco and black aluminium details.

Split level living

The playfulness of the exterior lines returns in the interior by using split-level floors: the kitchen is situated lower than the living room. These two spaces are connected by a generous, 4-meter-wide staircase.
